Strength Training Chair Aerobics

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Cost: $4 per class

Ballroom Dancing

Second Thursdays, 10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
Cost: $5 per class

Do you love to dance? Here is an opportunity to dance to beautiful ballroom and Latin music in a line dance class. You do not need a dance partner! With instructor Louise Dorian, you will explore waltz, foxtrot, swing, tango and quickstep. In Latin dance, we will experience cha cha, merengue, salsa and rhumba. Dance steps will be basic and choreographies
will give you a sense of the style, expression and feeling of each dance

 

Zumba Gold 

Mondays, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Cost: $5 per class

Join Deb Olivia for a NEW Zumba Gold Class!
Zumba Gold is a modified Zumba class for active older adults that recreates the original moves you love at a lower intensity.

 

Bone Builders

A special thank you to Nancy Rivet for her years of volunteering and dedication to the COA! We are excited to introduce our new instructor, Niki Holtzman! Niki is a former occupational therapist who continues to dedicate her time and expertise in a variety of volunteer roles.
Using light weights, our routines are centered around slow, methodical movements. A recent study in the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness found that low-weight, high-repetition resistance training is especially effective for increasing bone mineral density in adults. Participants in the study experienced up to 8 percent bone density increases in their arms, pelvis, spine, and legs.

 

Meditation

Fridays, 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Cost: None

COA volunteer John Barnard will be leading a basic meditation class focusing on learning how to relax and let things be just as they are.

 

Mindful Movement 

2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month, 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Cost: $5 per class

Instructor, Dave Crocker, welcomes new students anytime.

Tai Chi is a non-competitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching. Qigong involves using excercises to optimize energy within the body, mind, and spirit, with the goal of optimizing health and well-being. Dave will be using both systems in this mindful movement class.

 

Chair Yoga

Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Cost: $5 per class

Instructor Louise Dorian leads a gentle yoga class with a focus on mental peace. Work on your flexibility as you experience tranquility.  Supported by the Friends of The Groton Elders.

 

Indoor Walking Group at the Twomey Center

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Cost: Free

Pickleball

Senior Play (you must be a registered player, reside in Groton, and be 60 years or older). People interested in signing up for pickleball should reach out to The Center to fill out paperwork and receive the sign-up link.

Outdoor Pickleball: Pickleball is back outside! We have space at the Lost Lake Fire Station Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8am to 12 noon through October.

Pickleball League: Play is at the Twomey Center Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during the school year, and at the Lost Lake Fire Station during the summer. The league is currently full.

Pickleball Occasional Player: Occasional players play with our League players on a space-available basis at Twomey during the school year, as well as at The Center on Mondays and Fridays any season, and at the Lost Lake Fire Station during the summer.

Pickleball Open Play: The Groton Center has an indoor court that is available to residents of all ages at no charge and is available on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. The majority of players must be residents and is open to all ages. Players are responsible for set up and dismantle of the net. To reserve your court or to be added to the waitlist call 978-448-1170.
